The Water Group

The Water Group is a small group of individuals in Korea’s research capital Daedeok Valley who are deeply concerned with environmental issues and wish to make water itself the focus of attention. The Water Group draws experts from various fields of learning, but always includes some with specialized knowledge of water purification or treatment technologies so that the discussion never goes to far away from technical reality.

The Water Group meets once a month for dinner in Daedeok.

There should never be more than twelve people present at a meeting to assure in-depth discussion and equal participation.

Formal introductions, speeches and toasts are kept to an absolute minimum so that the conversation on water and the environment can be the primary focus.

Schedule for a meeting of the Water Group over dinner

Short self-introductions (10 minutes)

Short presentation on a particular topic (10 minutes)

Discussion of the topic in question by all participants (40 minutes)

Discussion of future action and future cooperation-brainstorming (25 minutes)

The Purpose of The Water Group

1)

The Water Group serves to bring together the expertise related to water in the Daedeok Valley and lay the foundation for Daedeok to become an internationally recognized cluster for water-related technologies

Create awareness of the fact that Korea is a nation that does not have enough water.

Suggest policies for the Daedeok Valley and Daejeon City for water management

Formulate a strong argument for why the water crisis is as serious as the CO2 and requires our full attention

4)

Propose global and local cooperation plans to address water issues

5)

Work to make Daejeon a leader in effective use of water through constructive proposals for effective water policies in the city.
